ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities seized shabu worth over P1 billion here in August.

Two big shipments were recovered 11 days apart.

On Aug. 19, an ex-soldier was arrested with P27-million shabu, a breakthrough which led police to confiscate the two biggest volumes of illegal drugs confiscated in Zamboanga City's history.

On Aug. 20, police tailed a vehicle suspected of carrying a big volume of drugs. The driver engaged authorities in a chase until the vehicle fell into a ditch. The cargo turned out to be 67 kilos of drugs amounting to P455 million.

After 11 days, P605-million worth of illegal drugs were seized when a car passed by a police checkpoint in Rio Hondo.

Security sources said the contraband came from a big shipment of illegal drugs into Zamboanga City, a known transshipment point of drugs from the southern backdoor towards other areas in Mindanao.
