More Filipinos report better quality of life in June 2025, SWS survey shows
More adult Filipinos saw improvements in their quality of life over the past year, based on the results of the June 2025 Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Sept. 2.
The survey, conducted from June 25 to 29, found that 35 percent of respondents reported an improvement in their quality of life compared to 12 months ago, while 23 percent said it worsened.
Forty-two percent reported no change.
SWS defines “gainers” as those who believe their quality of life has improved, “losers” as those who think it has worsened, and “unchanged” as those who say it has stayed the same.
The latest figures translate to a net gainers score of +12 (difference between those who said life improved and those who said it got worse), classified by SWS as “very high.”
It is seven points above the “high” +5 in April 23-28 and “fair” -1 in April 11-15.
SWS classifies net gainers scores as follows: excellent (+20 and above), very High (+10 to +19), vigh (+1 to +9), fair (–9 to 0), mediocre (–10 to –19), low (–20 to –29), very low (–30 to –39), extremely low (–40 to –49), and catastrophic (–50 and below).
Net gainers rise in most areas
The June 2025 survey showed higher net gainers scores in most areas except Balance Luzon.
The Visayas led with +22, followed by Mindanao at +16 and Metro Manila at +10.
Meanwhile, Balance Luzon dropped from +12 to +6.
SWS noted that from April to June, the net gainers score rose by 22 points in the Visayas, 19 in Mindanao, and 11 in Metro Manila.
Balance Luzon was the only region to register a decline.
Gains seen across demographics
In the survey, both urban and rural respondents reported improved sentiment, with urban areas rising from +2 to +10, and rural areas from +7 to +14.
The score among women also increased from +7 to +15, and among men, from +2 to +9.
Young adults remained the most optimistic, SWS pointed out.
Those aged 18 to 24 had the highest net gainers score at +39, followed by 25 to 34-year-olds at +20.
Older age groups posted smaller gains, with those 35-44-year-olds at +9, 45-54-year-olds at +4, and those 55 years and older at +4.
Net gainers among non-elementary graduates rose from -8 to +13, while elementary graduates increased from -6 to +12.
Junior high school graduates posted a smaller gain from net zero to +5.
College graduates stayed very high at +13, up from +10.
The only group to record a decline was those with some senior high school education, down from +26 to +19
The Second Quarter 2025 Social Weather Survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon (or Luzon outside Metro Manila), Visayas, and Mindanao.
The sampling error margin is ±3 percent for national results and ±6 percent for each area.
