Manileño senior citizens will once again receive cakes on their birthday courtesy of the city government after Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso revived the city's birthday cake-giving tradition on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Introduced during his first tenure as mayor, Domagoso explained that the initiative is just one of his ways of showing his love and care for the city's elderly.
"Spoiled saken ang ating mga lolo at lola, love na love ko yan. Huwag mag-alala, mga nanay at tatay. Dahan-dahan nating ibabalik sa maayos ang mga benepisyong minsang nawala o nagkulang sa inyo. Bababawi ang pamahalaang lungsod, ayusin natin ‘yan (I like spoiling our grandparents because I love them so much. I assure our fathers and mothers that we will gradually normalize all the benefits that were once insufficient or even taken away from you. The city government will make it up to you and fix everything for you)," the mayor said.
According to him, the initiative will continue until Dec. 31, 2025, ensuring that every senior celebrant in Manila will be honored with a cake on their special day.
