There are no reports of Filipinos killed or injured during the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan over the weekend, the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad said on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
“As of this time, there are no reports of Filipino casualties or injuries. No Filipino nationals are known to be in evacuation centers, and no evacuation orders have been issued,” the embassy added in a statement.
“The Embassy has established contact with several Filipino nationals in Kabul and continues efforts to verify the welfare and status of the remaining individuals,” it furthered.
The Philippine Embassy in Islamabad, which has jurisdiction over Afghanistan, reported that the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that rocked eastern Afghanistan on Aug. 31 had its epicenter located approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad.
The most affected areas were the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman in Afghanistan.
Access to these areas for humanitarian assistance is being impeded by road blockages due to landslides and difficult terrain, the embassy noted.
Currently, there are seven Filipino nationals in Afghanistan, all of whom are based in or around the capital city of Kabul, and none are in the Jalalabad or Nangarhar Province.
The death toll in the Afghanistan quake left over 1,400 dead in its wake.
