  • Toyota Motor Philippines is teasing the Yaris ATIV Hybrid, powered by the same powerplant as the Yaris Cross Hybrid, paired with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery.
  • The model could be launched either as the Yaris ATIV or retain the Vios badge in the Philippines.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has hinted at the imminent arrival of its next hybrid vehicle for the Philippine market. The post in question features a black-and-white photo showcasing a close-up of an angular headlamp alongside the words "ACHIEVE THE ELECTRIFIED VISION," with the letters A, T, I, and V emphasized in blue. The post is accompanied by the caption, “Coming very soon. #BeyondZero #MoveYourWorld #MobilityForAll.”
The model in question is widely believed to be the Yaris ATIV Hybrid, a sedan already introduced in Thailand and developed with ASEAN markets in mind. The name may not be familiar because we call the Yaris ATIV by another name in the Philippines: Vios. Introducing it in the Philippines would expand Toyota’s electrified portfolio, which currently includes the Yaris Cross Hybrid, Corolla Altis Hybrid, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, Innova Zenix Hybrid, and RAV4 Hybrid.
At the heart of the Yaris ATIV Hybrid is the 2NR-VEX engine, also used in the Yaris Cross Hybrid. This 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, dual VVT-i petrol engine works in conjunction with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. The system delivers a combined output of 111 PS and is paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Toyota reports that in Thailand, the car can achieve fuel consumption of up to 29.4 km/L based on UN R101 laboratory testing standards. The hybrid system is designed to provide smooth acceleration and quiet operation during stop-and-go traffic, and the car is equipped with Eco, Normal, and Power driving modes for different conditions.
In Thailand, the Yaris ATIV Hybrid is offered in two main trims: the HEV Premium and the HEV GR Sport. The HEV Premium trim features newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps, black and grey synthetic leather seats, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes wireless charging, automatic climate control with rear air vents and a PM2.5 filter, and customizable ambient lighting with 64 color options. Safety features include Toyota Safety Sense with lane-keeping assist, all-speed adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a panoramic view monitor, six airbags, and a digital video recorder.
For buyers seeking a sportier package, the HEV GR Sport variant features GR-exclusive styling and tuning. It has a distinct front grille with the GR badge, a body kit with front, side, and rear skirts, a rear spoiler, a contrasting black roof, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The suspension and steering are specially tuned for more responsive handling, while the interior gains GR-branded black synthetic leather seats, a GR steering wheel, and a six-speaker Pioneer audio system.
Both trims are offered in a variety of exterior colors in Thailand, with the HEV Premium available in five colors, including Platinum White Pearl and Red Mica Metallic, while the HEV GR Sport is available in three dual-tone combinations featuring a black roof.
The Thai market no longer uses the Vios nameplate, with the Yaris ATIV effectively taking over its role in the subcompact sedan segment. In the Philippines, however, the Vios badge remains one of Toyota’s strongest and most recognized nameplates. Toyota Motor Philippines may retain the Vios branding locally and market the new hybrid as the Vios ATIV or choose a different naming strategy altogether.
It remains to be seen which trims and features Toyota Motor Philippines will introduce. The Philippine version may mirror the Thai specifications or be configured differently to suit the local market. What is clear is that the introduction of the Yaris ATIV Hybrid would provide Filipino buyers with an electrified option in the highly competitive subcompact sedan segment. With TMP teasing its arrival, more details on specifications, pricing, and launch schedules are expected in the coming weeks.
