ZAMBOANGA CITY - Police seized P9.4-million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Santa Cruz Island here on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Lawmen were conducting seaborne patrol when they detected a suspicious motorized boat via radar.
The vessel marked Under Armor was inspected and found to be loaded with 165 cases of assorted imported cigarettes.
Inventory showed that the cargo had an estimated value of P9.4 million.
Five individuals were taken into custody after they failed to present documents legalizing the shipment and transport.
All confiscated items and crew members were turned over to the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 for disposition.
