ILIGAN CITY – Smuggled cigarettes valued at P16 million were intercepted by authorities in Barangay Camague here on Aug. 30.
Authorities received information about the smuggling attempt and flagged down two vehicles containing the contraband that came from Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte bound for Cagayan de Oro City.
One of the drivers evaded arrest while another was arrested and released after issuing a statement.
Recovered were 390 cases of Platinum brand cigarettes and two Isuzu Elf utility vehicles and these have been turned over to the Bureau of Custom for proper documentation and filing of appropriate cases.
