Metro Manila cops lauded for securing WorldSkills ASEAN Manila
Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), lauded his men for what he described as safe and orderly conduct of an international event held in the country for 10 days.
Aberin attributed the country’s successful hosting of the WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 to the efficient execution of the plan to secure around 686 delegates from Southeast Asia, as well as the areas as activity venues.
The event is an international showcase of young talents and expertise held from August 21 to 30 across key venues in Metro Manila.
“The NCRPO, together with partner agencies, implemented comprehensive security measures that allowed the entire event to proceed peacefully and without incident,” said Aberin.
“From the arrival of foreign participants at the airport, to their accommodation, transport convoys, and the conduct of competitions, NCRPO’s operational plan was executed seamlessly,” he added.
More than 1,000 personnel from the Philippine National Police and other government agencies were mobilized, covering airport terminals, hotels, competition venues, and transport routes.
Specialized units such as the Special Action Force, K9 and Explosive Ordnance Teams, cybercrime investigators, medical teams, and maritime police were on standby to address any security contingency.
Aberin said venue and route security were further reinforced by local police units, ensuring uninterrupted activities throughout the ten-day program.
The event’s opening ceremony was held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom while the three-day competitions at the World Trade Center Metro Manila. Some activities, including the closing ceremony, were held at the SMX Convention Center.
“The proactive deployment, constant intelligence monitoring, and visible police presence assured both the organizers and foreign participants of a safe environment conducive to international exchange and competition,” said Aberin.
He explained that the successful implementation of security measures reflected the existing strategies on effective management of activities, events, festivities, and crowd control under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations.
