Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has officially announced the start of construction for the Manila Cancer Center (MCC), set to become the first local government-run cancer facility in the Philippines.
He said the milestone project marks a significant step forward in making specialized cancer care accessible to all Manileños, especially those who cannot afford private healthcare.
The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Manila Sacramento Library and Multi-Purpose Building held along Zamora Street in Paco, Manila.

Domagoso confirmed that all necessary permits have been secured, paving the way for construction to proceed.
Developed in partnership with Manila 5th District Representative Irwin Tieng, the MCC will rise within the compound of the Ospital ng Maynila.
The facility aims to provide affordable, high-quality cancer care, especially for underserved communities.
“Marami pa tayong mga pagawaing gusali na pakikinabangan ng mga mamamayan. Pumanatag kayo, mga batang Maynila, masakit man sa likod, masakit man sa katawan, magpupursige kami na maibangon muli ang lungsod ng Maynila (We still have many infrastructure projects underway that will benefit the people. Rest assured, young people of Manila—even if our backs ache, even if our bodies are in pain, we will persevere to uplift and rebuild the City of Manila),” said the mayor.
He added that the Manila Cancer Center reflects the city government’s dedication to public health and social welfare, ensuring that essential medical services are within reach for all, regardless of economic status.
