Dizon to scrap DPWH's internal probe team on flood control mess
Stressing that a department cannot investigate its own, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said he will abolish the agency's internal investigation team formed to probe flood control project anomalies.
Newly appointed DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon addresses the media during a Palace briefing on Monday, September 1, 2025, outlining his plan to order the courtesy resignations of ranking officials nationwide as part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s drive to “clean house” at the agency. (PCO)
Dizon bared in an interview that he will dissolve the team on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
"Unang una po, with all due respect po sa mga officials na nagbuo ng task force, hindi po ako naniniwala na ang organisasyon, e, dapat imbestigahin ang ang sarili niya. Hindi po ata tama iyon (First of all, with all due respect to the officials who formed the task force, I do not believe that an organization should investigate itself. I don’t think that’s right)," Dizon said in an interview on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Hyundai Shipyard in Subic, Zambales.
Dizon said he understands that the team was formed at a time when President Marcos had not yet said that there would be an independent commission to investigate anomalies at the DPWH.
However, he said, now that the independent commission is being finalized, they must respect it.
"Pero ngayon po na meron na, tingin ko po, respetuhin na lang natin ang wisdom ng ating Pangulo. Kaya yun po ay bubuwagin ko na po today (But now that there is one, I think we should respect the wisdom of our President. That is why I will dissolve it today)," Dizon said.
"So para ho sa akin, nagsalita na po ang Pangulo, magtatayo po siya ng independent commission. Ibigay po natin sa independent commission ang responsibilidad at authority to investigate (So for me, the President has already spoken — he will establish an independent commission. Let us give the independent commission the responsibility and authority to investigate)," he also said.
The DPWH chief also gave an assurance that the information gathered by the internal probe committee will be forwarded to the independent commission.
"Lahat po yun ay ipapsa natin sa independent commission. Yun po ang tingin ko ang dapat na mangyari. Kakalap po kami, kasama ng bagong team na papasok sa DPWH nung information sa loob ng departamento. At yun po ay ipapasa natin sa independent commission (All of that will be turned over to the independent commission. That, in my view, is what should happen. Together with the new team coming into the DPWH, we will gather information within the department, and we will hand it over to the independent commission)," Dizon said.
Dizon announced the new development a day after he ordered the courtesy resignation of all ranking officials of the department amid allegations of anomalies in flood control projects.
