Ombudsman creates special panel of investigators to probe 'anomalous' flood control projects
The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) has created a special panel of investigators to probe the reported anomalous flood control projects implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and local government units (LGUs).
The OMB’s office order stated the panel will look into "anomalous flood control projects of the government, both local and national, and the alleged corrupt practices involved therein, including the misappropriation of public funds."
"The Special Panel of Investigators is directed to conduct a prompt investigation, gather evidence, and recommend appropriate actions, including the filing of criminal and administrative cases, against all individuals found responsible," the order stated.
The panel is headed by Assistant Ombudsman of the Field Investigation Office I Caesar D. Asuncion as chairperson and Assistant Ombudsman of the Field Investigation Office II Maria Olivia Elena A. Roxas as co-chairperson.
The 11 members of the panel are Acting Director of the General Investigation Bureau Maria Jennifer O. Lacea, Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer III Marie Beth S. Almero, Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer II Maria Karen E. Veloso, Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer II Frederick C. Aguilar, Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer II Carmelo D. Gines, Jr., Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer II Albert T. Leynes, Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer I Ann Germaine Logan-Constantino, Assistant Graft Investigation Officer III Janice O. Baltazar-De Guzman, Assistant Graft Investigation Officer III Julber P. Tadiaman, Assistant Graft Investigation Officer III Dindo B. Jacinto, and Assistant Graft Investigation Officer III Ryan Paul T. Lumanog.
To fulfill its tasks, the panel is given the authority to direct any public officer or employee to furnish it with copies of documents pertaining to contracts or transactions relative to the government's flood control program.
