LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Albay 2nd District Engineering Office has called for a review of the design of the retractable roofing project at Peñaranda Park here following an incident over the weekend that prompted concerns over public safety.
In an official statement Monday, Sept. 1, the DPWH said they convened a coordination meeting on Aug. 31 with the Provincial Engineering’s Office (PEO), the city government of Legazpi, the project contractor, DPWH regional office, and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The meeting focused on assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident and determining appropriate safety measures.
“Following a thorough discussion, it was formally recommended that the current project design be revisited,” the DPWH said.
The agency assured the public that its foremost priority remains the safety and well-being of the community, stressing that the evaluation is part of precautionary efforts to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The DPWH, however, did not provide specific details on the extent of the incident at Peñaranda Park.
Peñaranda Park, one of Legazpi City’s landmarks, is currently undergoing renovations, including the installation of a retractable roofing system.
