CEBU CITY – A policeman was arrested for allegedly causing trouble inside a cockpit in the City of Naga, southern Cebu.
Police Patrolman Frank Omambac Alemento, 46, was allegedly drunk when the incident happened on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 30.
Investigation showed that Alemento arrived in the cockpit with a fighting cock.
Security camera footage showed that the policeman was holding a bottle of beer while looking for an opponent of his gamefowl.
The policeman later on got into an argument with another man.
The policeman was seen trying to draw a firearm from his sling bag, forcing the man to wrestle him. As the two wrestled, the civilian overpowered the policeman and took his firearm.
Police were then called that led to the policeman’s arrest.
The Cebu Provinicial Police Office (CCPO) condemned the policeman’s action.
Police Col. Christopher Bermudez, chief of CPPO, said what the policeman did was unacceptable.
Bermudez assured that the incident will be investigated fairly, adding that necessary sanctions will be slapped against the policeman if proven guilty.
"We want to assure the people of Cebu province that this incident does not reflect the values and standards of the Cebu Police Provincial Office. We remain committed to upholding the highest standard of discipline and to swiftly responding to any misconduct involving our personnel," the CPPO said in a statement.
