Classes, gov't work suspended in NCR, 16 other areas on Sept. 1
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered the suspension of classes in all levels in both public and private schools, as well as work in government offices in Metro Manila on Monday, Sept. 1, due to heavy rains and possible flooding.
Similar suspensions were also declared in Albay, Antique, Bulacan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Cavite, Laguna, Masbate, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Occidental Mindoro, Pampanga, Quezon, Rizal, and Sorsogon.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), a low-pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, Aug. 31, bringing rains over parts of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
The combined effects of the LPA and the southwest monsoon (habagat) are expected to cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Central and Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and the western section of Mindanao.
PAGASA added that similar conditions may persist until Sept. 3 before improving by Thursday, Sept. 4, when generally fair weather is expected nationwide.
The agency warned residents to remain cautious against flash floods and landslides during heavy rainfall.
