DAVAO CITY – About 400 senior citizens joined opening the “Zumba Ehersisyo sa Barangay” program led by the Office of First District Rep. Paolo Duterte on Monday morning, Sept. 1, in Barangay Catalunan Grande.
The initiative, designed to promote health and wellness among older people, will be rolled out across all 54 barangays in the first district in the coming weeks.
With the theme “Enhancing Wellness: A Comprehensive Fitness and Awareness Initiative for Senior Citizens and Davaoeños,” Rep. Duterte said the program seeks to promote active lifestyles and highlight the benefits of exercise for older adults.
“This is not just about exercise—it is about creating a culture of wellness in every barangay, especially for our senior citizens,” Rep. Duterte said. “We want them to stay active, healthy, and socially connected, while inspiring younger generations to embrace fitness.”
Federation of Senior Citizens president Osmunda Lahora thanked Rep. Duterte for his continued assistance, noting that seniors remain a priority despite the demands of his work.
Seventy-year-old Thelma Briones said the event was enjoyable and beneficial and highlighted the exercise, meals, and food packs provided during the activity.
In addition to the Zumba session, Rep. Duterte’s office also served hot meals and gave food packs to the participants. The lawmaker has long implemented health and social programs in the district.
