ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities seized shabu valued at P605 million from a fisherman and two of his cohorts who evaded a police checkpoint here on Sunday, Aug. 31.
The suspects were travelling in Barangay Rio Hondo in their vehicle when they evaded a police and military checkpoint. A hot-pursuit operation ensued, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Some 89 kilos of suspected shabu worth P605.2 million were recovered inside four ice chests from the back of the vehicle.
Police arrested a fisherman identified as Baser Sarail Onggo, alias Wang Yu, 53, a resident of Isabela City, Basilan; and his cohorts, John Michael Tagayan Mosquera, 27, identified as a high-value drug target, and Addil Alshareif Arajil, 41. Mosquera and Arajil are unemployed.
The contraband and suspects were placed under the custody of the police.
It was the latest major drug haul in the past few days in Region 9 or Zamboanga Peninsula. Last Aug. 20, authorities seized shabu worth P455 million from a drug courier transporting the contraband to an area outside Zamboanga City.
