DAVAO CITY – Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte urged supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte to gather at The Hague on Sept. 23 for his confirmation of charges hearing at the International Criminal Court.
Mayor Duterte said the gathering would show the strength and unity of the Duterte camp, noting that supporters had already proven their numbers in the 2016 and 2025 midterm elections, and could again display the same level of backing soon.
“Fight for your former President, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, be here in The Hague. We will gather ourselves peacefully and show all the support that we can,” Mayor Duterte said.
Mayor Duterte, along with his siblings, Vice President Sara Duterte, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, and Veronica Duterte, recently visited their father at the ICC detention facility following his request.
Mayor Duterte said former President Duterte was high spirits seeing his four children. He added that the patriarch enjoyed their lively exchange. “It was noisy because everyone was speaking at the same time."
He admitted that he missed that kind of discussion. "It was chaotic." He added that the family talked about personal life and politics, but not the 2028 elections.
Vice President Duterte told supporters at The Hague that a nurse at the ICC detention facility advised her not to bring snacks, except his favorite soda, due to the former President's high sugar level.
When asked about being reunited with her three siblings and their father, she said she had no particular feelings about being with her siblings, but they granted their father’s request to see them together because it made him happy.
Former Duterte's children thanked all the supporters on Duterte St. “We are grateful to your endless support,” Vice President Duterte said. She added that they thanked the ICC’s detention unit for allowing four adults to visit him.
