BACOLOD CITY – A 25-year-old former communist rebel linked to an ambush where two police officers and a teenage bystander were wounded in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental three years ago was recently apprehended in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Alias Jim was arrested in Barangay Carabalan where he relocated from Barangay Biao, Binalbagan.
He was served an arrest warrant for frustrated murder issued by the Himamaylan City Regional Trial Court Branch 55 dated June 27, 2023, with a P200,000 bail.
Police Lt. Col. Anthony Grande, Himamaylan police chief, said the suspect was allegedly involved in the February 2022 ambush on a police patrol in Barangay Biao, Binalbagan while 10 policemen were enroute to investigate a reported death in a nearby barangay.
Among the injured was Police Lt. Charles Richard Casalan, then deputy police chief of Binalbagan Municipal Police Station.
Grande said that the suspect was also served additional arrest warrants.
Two other communist fighters linked to the ambush were arrested last year in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City.
