DAVAO CITY – The Davao Agilas stamped their class in the Red Bull Half Court Mindanao Qualifier on Sunday, Aug. 31, outlasting 26 squads from across the region to clinch the championship and a coveted ticket to the national finals in Manila on Oct. 18.
Backed by head coach Jigger Saniel, the Agilas leaned on the stellar play of Mart Redyn Arellano, Dave Arana, John Rodulfa, and Peter Adabo to outduel some of Mindanao’s toughest competitors in the halfcourt cage wars.
“It is our pride that from Davao, fellow Davaoeños will represent Mindanao. I saw the effort of the players—truly the heart of champions,” Saniel said after the title run.
Arellano, one of the team’s standouts, admitted the national stage would be a bigger challenge but vowed to fight with the same intensity that carried them through the Mindanao leg.
“The challenge at the nationals will be tough since there are many top-caliber teams, but we will do our best to represent not just Davao, but Mindanao as a whole,” Arellano said.
With momentum on their side and the region rallying behind them, the Davao Agilas now set their sights on Manila, ready to showcase Mindanaoan grit and pride against the country’s best.
