BACOLOD CITY – Barangay 8 in this highly-urbanized city defended their title in the fifth Rum Festival Parade and Street Dance Competition on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds.
Powered by the energetic performance of the Vista Youth Movers, Barangay 8 triumphed over seven other contingents and bagged the P100,000 grand prize along with gift packs from the event sponsor.
“This is the payoff of all our sacrifices, exhaustion, and even late-night rehearsals under the rain,” said choreographer Yuri Delicano.
Barangay Cabug was second, winning P60,000, while Barangay 6 placed third and earned P40,000. Barangays 2, 21, Felisa, Alangilan, and Vista Alegre also took part in the competition.
With the theme “Nakatagong Galing,” this year’s festival celebrated this city’s cultural depth, local creativity, and its renowned rum-making tradition.
The event highlighted performances inspired by this city’s heritage, tourism, and artistry.
Mayor Greg Gasataya reaffirmed the city’s commitment to nurturing local talent. “We continue to honor our heritage and elevate our people,” he said.
“Here, we not only enjoy the finest rum, but we also learn more about the craft behind it — a showcase of Bacolod’s creativity and culinary artistry,” he added.
The four-day festival kicked off on Aug. 28 celebrating the rich culture, artistry, and heritage of rum production.
The event wrapped up with a free grand concert.
