- The 'Gangnam Style' hitmaker is under investigation fro allegedly obtaining prescriptions for strong psychiatric drugs without personally visiting the hospital.
Singer Psy is once again making headlines, but this time not for a viral hit.
Police in Seoul have launched an investigation into the “Gangnam Style” star over allegations that he received prescriptions for strong psychiatric drugs without personally visiting the hospital.
Authorities say Psy, 48, allegedly got prescriptions for Xanax and Stilnox — often used for anxiety and sleep disorders — between 2022 and 2024.
Instead of picking them up himself, his manager and other staff reportedly collected the medicine for him, something that’s not allowed under Korean law.
The case came to light after a tip-off, with police even raiding a university hospital for records. Both drugs are tightly controlled due to their addictive nature, making the controversy all the more serious.
Psy’s camp, however, was quick to defend him.
In a statement, his agency P Nation admitted it was a “mistake” that others picked up the prescriptions, but insisted Psy has long struggled with chronic sleep issues and takes the medication under a doctor’s care.
“There were no proxy prescriptions,” the agency explained, “but a third party did receive the drugs on his behalf in some cases.”
