Pastor-solon Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. is standing his ground that no substandard or "ghost" flood control project exists in his jurisdiction in the country's capital city.
Abante gave these remarks over the weekend, ahead of the House Infrastructure Committee's (infra comm) investigation in aid of legislation on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control projects controversy.
Speaking in an online interview, the veteran legislator said every project in his district was closely monitored and completed to standard.
“And I would like to say that there’s no substandard project in my district, there’s no ghost project in my district that I could be able to assure the public about that,” said Abante, chairman of the House Committee on Human Rights.
The veteran lawmaker and pastor-preacher explained that his office maintained a system of oversight to ensure quality and completion.
Abante, a former deputy speaker and minority leader, noted that no unfinished project can be inaugurated,
“Wala kayong makikita (You won't see any substandard projects). During my time, I do not know the past congressman, but during my time, wala (Nothing),” he said.
Abante pointed out that his term of service spanned several periods. He said this ensured familiarity with his district’s infrastructure priorities.
“I was a congressman in 2004 until 2010 and then I came back in the 19th Congress and then this Congress,” he said.
