The Navotas City government has partnered with A Child’s Trust Is Ours to Nurture (ACTION), Inc., a non-government organization, to open a community kitchen at Tanza Elementary School in support of children’s health and education.
According to the city’s Public Information Office, the Akamegane Kitchen Project began on Thursday, Aug. 28, and will provide daily meals to 100 students until 2028. Three local staff were hired to operate the kitchen and prepare food that meets proper nutrition standards.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco and ACTION founder and president Hajime Yokota signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the partnership.
“We welcome this partnership with ACTION, Inc. and its supporters. Proper nutrition plays a vital role in learning, and through this project, we hope to give our children a better chance to achieve their full potential,” Tiangco said.
The local government said the kitchen will be fully funded and managed by ACTION and its donors, while the city government -- through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and City Health Office (CHO) -- will provide space, utilities, permits, and technical support.
The mayor expressed his gratitude to ACTION and its donors, noting that the initiative reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to child welfare and education.
“This is more than just about providing meals, it is about giving our children the nourishment they need to grow healthy and learn effectively. We are grateful for ACTION’s trust and generosity, and we hope more partners will join us in uplifting the lives of Navoteño children,” Tiangco said.
