House Deputy Speaker Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronaldo "Ronnie" Puno says Leyte 4th district Rep. Richard Gomez should "absolutely" face an ethics complaint for exposing some media practitioners' names and personal contact numbers in a Facebook rant.

This, as Gomez refused to answer to the media the allegations of Matag-ob, Leyte Mayor Bernie Tacoy that a flood control structure in the former's district had collapsed rather easily.

On top of this, the movie actor--turned--congressman even accused the journalists who were seeking his side of being part of a paid "media spin", supposedly to assail his integrity.

"Yeah absolutely, absolutely. I encourage you to bring it before the ethics committee here," Puno told House reporters in a press conference Friday afternoon when asked if Gomez could face an ethics case for his actions.

"Hindi naman pwede yung mga ganun (Those kinds of actions aren't allowed), said Puno, who added, "I'm very disappointed to hear these things."

Puno said that media requests to get Gomez's side of the story concerning Tacoy's allegations were within reason.

"You are asked to explain something, you are a legislator, you explain. Kaya tayo naging legislator dahil ang tingjn ng tao marunong tayong magpaliwanag. Tapos yung ganyan na personal na, napakalinaw na kailangan mong ipaliwanag , hindi niya gagawin," he said.

(The reason why we became legislators is because the people view us as capable of explaining. And then he doesn't explain something personal that clearly needs to be explained.)

"And then you compound the issue by insulting people, hindi maganda talaga yun (that's really not good). I think the ethics committee should be brought into that," Puno added, referring to Gomez's post on late Thursday night.

The National Unity Party (NUP) chairman says that as lawmakers, people in Congress must conduct themselves in a manner worthy of their position in government.

"Legislators--congressmen, senators, you know--we are elected into our positions by people that trust us, express their faith in what we say, express their faith in what we do and what we can do.

"So our comportment and behavior in public is very important to reinforcing that faith and belief that they have in us...you are expected to be held and behave in a higher standard than other people," Puno explained.

"And being held to a higher standard doesn't just require mag-Barong Tagalog ka no (doesn't just require you wear a Barong Tagalog). I mean dapat maayos din yung pakikitungo mo sa lahat ng mga tao sa paligid mo (you should also treat the people around you with decency)...we want to be good role models, we don't want to be examples of what their children should not become," he added.
