The Department of Health (DOH) launched on Friday, Aug. 29 a nationwide simultaneous active case-finding campaign for tuberculosis (TB), in line with the observance of National Lung Month and National TB Day.
The campaign was conducted in various areas, offering free chest X-rays, sputum collection for confirmatory testing, and enrollment into TB treatment programs.
HIV screening and counseling services were also made available, recognizing the heightened vulnerability of people living with HIV (PLHIV) to TB.
DOH aimed to screen over 7,000 individuals nationwide to help detect undiagnosed TB cases and immediately start treatment.
Leading the campaign was Cebu City, which launched the local initiative “TPTodo: Panangga Laban sa TB, Proteksyon ay Garanti.”
The program seeks to raise awareness about Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) as an effective strategy to prevent the progression and spread of TB within communities.
Some of the areas that participated in the campaign included Cebu City (Cebu), Iligan City (Lanao del Norte), Naguilian (La Union), Mallig (Isabela), and General Santos City (South Cotabato).
