For aspiring designers, opportunities to showcase fresh ideas can define their journey. The American Standard Design Award (ASDA) provides that platform, inviting students across Southeast Asia to reimagine the bathroom as a space that adapts to changing needs and everyday life.
American Standard, a global power brand under LIXIL specializing in bathroom and kitchen products, has launched the fourth edition of ASDA 2026—a competition that invites full-time undergraduate students in architecture and interior design from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam to apply their knowledge and showcase innovative solutions in bathroom space design. This year also marks the brand’s 150th anniversary, highlighting its long history of improving everyday living.

With a legacy built on inviting and dependable design with pioneering technology, the brand continues to champion solutions that enrich daily life. This year’s theme, ‘Inspiring Everyday Living,’ invites aspiring designers to reflect on how the bathroom can address our evolving needs and become a meaningful extension of how we live, connect and feel."
Registration is free, and submissions are open until January 4, 2026. National winners will be named in April and move on to the APAC Grand Prize round in May. Prizes range from $1,000 to $2,000 at the national level, while the APAC Grand Prize winner will earn $3,000 and a spot in a masterclass led by LIXIL design leaders.
Bonalos’ winning entry, SereniScape Retreat, won the ASDA 2024 APAC Grand Prize with its hospitality bathroom concept combining Loven’s curves, Aero-lite’s slim design, and modular storage for a tailored guest experience.
Young designers took center stage
Last year’s American Standard Design Award brought together nearly 3,500 registrants and more than 1,000 submissions from nine countries, highlighting the growing reach of the competition across Asia. The Philippines took the spotlight with Ricardo Noel Bonalos of the University of Santo Tomas winning the grand prize for “SereniScape Retreat: Your Personal Urban Oasis.” His design emphasized simplicity and ease of navigation while introducing modular shelving that adapts to every guest’s needs.
In Australia, Nguyen Minh Chau from Deakin University presented “Welcome Back”, a retreat inspired by nature with soft lighting, textured finishes, and neutral tones. From Cambodia, Davy Sophonn of Kirirom Institute of Technology highlighted a countryside-inspired design that incorporated greenery and a welcoming atmosphere, offering the comfort of a personal sanctuary.
For Indonesia, Luist Yansen of Tarumanagara University introduced “Limitless Space, Limitless Experience”, a fresh take on conventional bathroom layouts designed for flexibility and comfort. Thailand’s Podsatorn Keela from Khon Kaen University showcased “Pixel Cube”, which used customizable lighting to create a personalized space. And finally, from Vietnam, Mai Ha Vo of Danang Architecture University presented “Design Speaks – Through Feelings”, a sensory-driven approach that engaged all five senses to build an immersive bathroom experience.
The ASDA has become more than a competition, it is a platform where aspiring designers gain recognition, learn from industry experts, and showcase ideas that push the boundaries of bathroom design, building on American Standard’s 150-year commitment to improving everyday living.
