Meralco employee gunned down in suspected road rage in Dasmariñas

CAVITE – A Meralco employee was shot dead while driving along Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay Salitran 3, Dasmariñas City, on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
A report from the Police Regional Office 4A said the victim, identified only as Mayo, was driving a company pickup amid heavy traffic when a red car edged closely to the victim’s vehicle.
A few moments later, the driver of the red car reportedly shot the victim in the head before fleeing.
The victim died in the hospital.
In a statement, Meralco condemned the employee's murder.
“Lubos kaming nakikiramay sa pamilya at mahal sa buhay ng aming kasamahan na nagserbisyo sa Meralco sa loob ng 21 taon. Kasalukuyan na rin kaming nakikipag-ugnayan para ibigay ang mga kinakailangang tulong at suporta sa kanyang pamilya sa gitna ng trahedyang ito (We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of our colleague, who served Meralco for 21 years. We are also coordinating to provide the necessary assistance and support to his family in the wake of this tragedy),” the statement read.
“Kasalukuyan ring nagsasagawa ng manhunt ang kapulisan sa natukoy na suspect na bumaril sa aming empleyado. Bagama’t tinitingnan pa ang lahat ng posibleng anggulo sa insidente, maaaring dahil ito sa road rage base sa inisiyal na imbestigasyon ng PNP at SOCO (Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the identified suspect who shot our employee. While all possible angles are still being examined, initial investigation by the Philippine National Police and the Scene of the Crime Operatives suggests that the incident may have been due to road rage).”
The company also called on the public to cooperate with investigators to ensure that justice is served promptly.
