According to the bus conductor, the vehicle’s brakes malfunctioned as it descended from Litex, causing the driver to lose control.
An initial investigation conducted by the District Traffic Enforcement Unit (DTEU) revealed that the bus, driven by alias “Ronaldo,” 36, a resident of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, first struck a sedan, triggering a chain-reaction crash including a UV Express van, six motorcycles, a modern jeepney, and a passenger jeepney.
It also damaged the tent structure of the Bureau of Animal Industry’s inspection site and the perimeter fence of the MRT-7 Doña Carmen Station construction site.
Emergency responders immediately rescued individuals trapped in the wreckage.
Rescuers had difficulty extracting a passenger from the modern jeepney whose leg was pinned during the collision.
The injured passengers were immediately brought to Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital and Commonwealth Hospital for treatment.
All vehicles involved suffered varying degrees of damage, with the total cost still under assessment.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said it is preparing charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Damage to Property and Multiple Physical Injuries against the bus driver.
