Duterte siblings visit detained father at The Hague; FPRRD 'happy' to see children

The four Duterte siblings—Sara, Paolo, Sebastian, and Veronica—have visited their farther, former president Rodrigo Duterte, in the detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands after an earlier request from the Duterte patriarch to see his children together.

This was confirmed by Vice President Sara Duterte herself during an interview on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

She shared that her father told Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, the former president’s only daughter with partner Honeylet Avanceña, last month that he wanted to see them.

“Nagsabi siya kay Veronica, kay Kitty na gusto nya sana na personal nya makausap kaming apat na magkakapatid at meron siyang mga sasabihin. So, nag-schedule kami ngayon (He told Veronica, Kitty that he wants to personally talk to us four and he wants to tell us something. So we scheduled it today),” she said.

The Vice President added that they had to follow Veronica’s date of visit because of her school schedule, and that the former president was “happy” to see the four of them together.

“As a father, yun ang message niya...Personal na buhay, buhay ng pamilya at buhay namin sa pulitika (that’s his message...It’s about our personal, family, and political lives),” the official shared.

“Yung mga general topics napag-usapan kanina...Napag-usapan lang kung ano yung mga nangyayari ngayon at ano yung posibleng mangyari bukas, sa susunod na taon (We talked about general topics…We talked about what’s happening now and what could happen tomorrow and the next year), in three years from now,” she added.

She recalled that they were all “happy” earlier to be able to talk with their father and that it was quite “noisy” since there were four of them trying to talk over each other.

“So, na-miss niya yung ganon na discussions na labo-labo, sabay-sabay nagsasalita. At masaya siya na nakabisita kaming apat (he missed those kinds of discussions wherein we were all talking at the same time. And he’s happy that all four of us were able to visit),” she said.

Health updates

The Vice President assured that the former president is in good health, though his blood sugar level is being monitored by the nurses inside the facility.

They were, in fact, advised not to give the elder Duterte snacks and was only allowed his favorite Coke Zero because they wanted to bring his blood sugar level down.

“Okay naman siya. Minasahe siya for one and half hours ni Congressman Pulong Duterte (He’s okay. Congressman Pulong Duterte massaged him for one and a half hours),” she said, referring to brother Paolo.

The eldest Duterte sibling massaged the former president’s foot, arms, back, and neck, his sister added.
