Vintage bombs, ammunition recovered from Rizal dig site

Over 1,500 World War II era bombs and ammunition were recovered by the Antipolo City Police from a mountain dig site in Barangay San Roque, Antipolo City on Monday, Aug. 25.
According to the Antipolo City Police, they received a report calling for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) assistance at a dig site in Alta Vista after a backhoe conducting digging operations accidentally discovered an array of unexploded ordnance (UXO).
Responding police officers discovered over 1,500 pieces of unused exploding ordnance and ammunition, including 224 pieces of Japanese Type 89 Knee Mortar 50 MM shells and 1284 pieces of .30 caliber ammunition.
The UXOs were subsequently transported to a makeshift storage area for proper disposition.
