Duterte’s lead counsel Nicholas Kaufman said he wants to speak to the government and the Filipino people. He said he was still waiting to be invited by the Marcos administration.
However, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said, they have yet to receive any request from the side of the former chief executive.
"Wala pa pong request kaming natatanggap (We have not received a request yet)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Asked if the Malacañang would be open to speak to the Duterte camp, Castro said the request needs to be submitted first.
"It’s so hypothetical right now. So, magbigay muna siya ng request (So, they need to submit the request first)," Castro said.
Duterte has been detained in The Hague, Netherlands since being arrested in March for crimes against humanity.
