PAGASA: Up to 4 cyclones may form or enter PAR in September
Historical tracks of tropical cyclones within the Philippine Area of Responsibility during September (PAGASA)
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that two to four tropical cyclones may form or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in September.
The next names on the list of tropical cyclones are Jacinto, Kiko, Lannie, and Mirasol.
In a climate forum on Wednesday, Aug. 27, PAGASA weather specialist Ryan Diocampo said that, based on climatological data, cyclones in September typically follow one of four common tracks.
Some cyclones recurve in the northeastern part of the PAR, moving toward Japan or Korea without making landfall and usually having little effect on the southwest monsoon (habagat).
Another track involves cyclones recurving in the northwestern part of the PAR, heading toward Taiwan, which may enhance habagat activity.
Other cyclones make landfall over northern or extreme northern Luzon before moving toward Hong Kong or China.
Lastly, some tropical cyclones make landfall and pass through the southern parts of Luzon, before continuing toward Vietnam.
