Relieved Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre III gave a brutally honest response to whether or not he would named the next National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director.
In a chance interview with reporters at the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 27, Torre says he is not up to the task as NBI chief.
"I'm not qualified for it," he said in a serious tone when asked about the supposed open position.
The NBI is an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ). Lawyers are usually given the reins of such agencies.
Asked if he was offered a new position in government by President Marcos who shockingly relieved him as PNP head honcho last Monday, Torre said: "Let’s just wait for the official announcement, kung meron man (if there is one)."
While Torre confirmed that he and Marcos have already spoken to each other after the events Monday, the latter declined to give any details about it.
"Executive privilege na kung ano man yun, kami nang dalawa ang mag-usap nun (Let’s leave that to executive privilege, that just between us two)," said the four -star general.
