In a statement, the local government said its proactive planning and swift implementation of measures allowed the city to continue waste management operations without disruption.
To address the shift, Malabon established a waste transfer station and mobilized its own fleet of garbage trucks to transport collected waste to a sanitary landfill in Rodriguez, Rizal.
“Ito ay isang hakbang na nagpapakita na kapag iniisip at inaaksyunan nang maaga ang mga hamon, nagiging mas malinis, ligtas, at matatag ang komunidad (This step shows that when issues are carefully planned for and acted upon early, the community becomes cleaner, safer, and more resilient),” the local government said.
The Navotas landfill, a long-time dumping site for neighboring cities, permanently closed this year, prompting affected local governments to adopt alternative disposal strategies.
