Korean actor Rowoon stars in 'The Murky Stream,' his last project before enlisting in the military
Korean actor Rowoon, former member of K-pop boy band SF9, will be starring in the historical drama series “The Murky Stream.”
“The Murky Stream” will premiere on Disney+ on Sept. 26 and will be Rowoon’s last acting project before he enlists in the military in October.
The series is set in 16th century Joseon, where the Gyeong River, now known as the Han River in South Korea, flows with trade, corruption, and unchecked power.
Rowoon (“The Matchmakers,” “The King’s Affection”) stars as Jang Siyul, a gang enforcer struggling with his past.
His co-stars are actress Shin Ye-eun (“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born,” “The Glory”) as Choi Eun, a sharp-witted merchant with something to prove, and Park Seoham (“20th Century Boy and Girl”) as Jung Chun, a newly assigned officer at the local police bureau.
Siyul, once a noble youth with dreams of military honor, is now a fugitive turned gang enforcer, hardened by betrayal.
Jung Chun, his childhood friend, has become the very officer Siyul once aspired to be. Between them stands Choi Eun.
As their fates become entangled, the three, divided by circumstance but united in purpose, form an unlikely alliance to challenge the powerful forces that prey on the weak.
“The Murky Stream” delves into the subjects of loyalty, rebellion, and the fight to reclaim justice in a lawless world.
The series is written by Chun Sungil (“The Pirates,” “All of Us Are Dead”) and directed by Choo Changmin (“Land of Happiness,” “Masquerade”).
Meanwhile, Rowoon will finally enlist in the military on Oct. 27.
FNC Entertainment, his agency, announced on Aug. 25, “We would like to inform you about the military enlistment schedule of our actor Rowoon.”
“Rowoon, who was originally scheduled to enlist on July 21, received a re-examination (Grade 7) in his enlistment physical and underwent a re-examination in early August. He will enlist as an active-duty soldier on October 27,” it said.
It added, “As previously announced, there will be no official event on the day of enlistment to minimize congestion. As this will be a private event with many soldiers present, fans are prohibited from visiting, so please refrain from doing so.”
“We are always grateful for the love you have shown actor Rowoon, and we ask for your continued support until he safely completes his military service and returns in good health,” the agency said.
