Ex-cop, 2 others behind Bulacan heist arrested, stolen cash recovered
Three men, including a former policeman, were arrested by the Bulacan police following a swift operation against a robbery-holdup incident in Barangay Poblacion, Santa Maria, Bulacan, on Tuesday morning, August 26.
Police identified the suspects as alias “Lito,” alias “Roque” (a former policeman), and alias “Ric.”
Initial investigation showed that the victim was on his way to the bank to deposit P550,000 when one of the suspects suddenly pointed a gun at him and seized the money.
The suspects immediately fled onboard a pink motorcycle without a license plate.
The victim reported the incident to authorities. Members of the Santa Maria police, following the 5-minute response time (5MRT) directive, were able to apprehend the suspects.Recovered from them were a loaded Glock 22 Gen. 4 cal. .40 pistol with 12 bullets, the motorcycle used, and the stolen P550,000 cash.
“Hindi natin palalagpasin ang mga ganitong modus ng mga sindikato sa lalawigan. Ang mabilis na pagkakaaresto sa mga suspek ay patunay ng kahandaan at mabilis na aksyon ng inyong kapulisan upang masigurong ligtas ang ating mga kababayan (We will not tolerate such modus operandi of syndicates in the province. The swift arrest of the suspects is proof of the readiness and quick action of your police force to ensure the safety of our citizens),” Bulacan Police Director Col. Angel Garcillano said.
The suspects are currently detained at the Santa Maria police station and are facing charges for robbery-holdup and violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition), which will be filed at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Malolos City.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., Central Luzon police regional director, commended the Bulacan police for their timely response, which led to the recovery of the stolen money.
“Under the leadership of our new Acting Chief, PNP, Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., we remain focused on strengthening public safety through quick and effective police action,” Peñones said.
