Engineer shot, wounded in Negros Oriental

CEBU CITY – An engineer was shot and wounded on a highway in Santa Catalina town, Negros Oriental province on Wednesday morning, Aug. 27.
The victim was identified as Engr. Angelito Uy Mendoza, a 58-year-old resident of Barangay Manalongon, Santa Catalina.
Police said the victim was a contractor of construction projects.
Police Lt. Stephen Polinar, information officer of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said the victim was driving a motorcycle on his way to visit a quarry site when he was attacked past 7 a.m.
Polinar said the assailant escaped on a motorcycle.
A manhunt operation was immediately conducted while investigators continued to look into possible motives behind the incident, Polinar said.
A spent shell for a .45 caliber pistol was recovered in the crime scene.
