The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with the country’s information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) sector, launched a program designed to shape the future workforce through training and industry exposure.
DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma and Celeste Ilagan, Chief Operating Officer of the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), the umbrella group of the IT-BPM sector, formalized the partnership on Aug. 15 at Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
The officials signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) expanding the JobStart Philippines Program in the IT-BPM sector.
The initiative will equip young Filipinos with soft and core skills, specialized technical training, and on-the-job experience, while matching participants with relevant job opportunities.
DOLE said the program will also involve industry stakeholders in mentoring, recruitment, and talent development to strengthen the pipeline of skilled workers.
The agreement also covers the DOLE Adjustment Measures Program (AMP), which provides support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through capacity-building, productivity improvement, and business enhancement, as well as guidance on labor compliance and industrial peace initiatives.
Under the collaboration, DOLE will provide technical and administrative assistance to IT-BPM members, while IBPAP will promote and implement the programs nationwide.
DOLE’s regional offices will monitor local implementation to ensure the objectives of both JobStart and AMP are met.
