Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre III clarified to House reporters Wednesday, Aug 27 that he had no ill feelings toward President Marcos after his sudden sacking as the country's top cop two days ago.
"Of course," Torre answered with zero hesitation when asked if he was still in good terms with the commander-in-chief.
"Wala po kayong samaan ng loob? (Are there no bitter feelings between you?)" a reporter asked Torre in a follow-up question about his status with Marcos.
"Look at me straight in the eye. Do I look like somebody who is bitter?" he said.
The four-star general was visibly in good spirits as he fielded more questions.
Torre's relief order was signed Monday, and then officially announced by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla Tuesday.
Torre said there "nothing was damaged" between him and Remulla, and that he also supported the President’s decision to relieve him of his post.
"Yung pag-premise niyo ng question na 'beyond repair' [ang relationship], para bang may nasira. I'm telling you, simula kahapon sa official statement ng Secretary Jonvic, di ba, may nasira ba? Wala naman na," he said.
(The way you premised the question as ‘beyond repair,’ it’s as if something was damaged. I’m telling you, since yesterday, in Secretary Jonvic’s official statement, was anything damaged? There was nothing, right?)
"It's all the President's choice ang sabi niya (He said it was all the President's choice), which I supported."
Nartatez a 'very good officer'
Remulla, as concurrent National Police Commission (Napolcom) chairman, exercises supervisory function over the PNP, which is a civilian organization.
Taking over as officer-in-charge of PNP Tuesday was General Jose Nartatez Jr. Torre had only good things to say about him.
"I wish him well. I wish General Nartatez well. He is a very good officer."
Torre said he's also willing to give the OIC advice on his new designation. "He only needs to ask, and I'll give it to him."
