Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized around P3.3 million worth of cigarettes believed to have been smuggled into the country following the arrest of two people in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
CIDG director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said the operation stemmed from reports of proliferation of assorted cigarettes in some parts of Mindanao.
CIDG operatives, backed by operatives of the 1104th Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11, conducted an operation which resulted in the arrest of certain Arnel and Ramer in Bansalan town on Aug 25.
“The arrested suspects were caught while transporting tobacco products without the required graphic health warning labels, thus, illegal,” said Abrahano.
Seized were 128 master cases of Cannon, Greenhill, and Bravo tobacco products worth P3.3 million and a van.
Abrahano said the suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act 10643 (Graphic Health Warning Law) for the unlawful distribution of cigarettes without the required graphic health warnings.
