Pasay City Police Chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspect as Bayona, the driver of the motorcycle used in the shooting incident that occurred at the corner of Taft Avenue and Primero de Mayo St., Barangay 90, Pasay City on August 23.
De Sesto said Bayona was arrested at around 2:27 a.m. in Barangay Langkaan I, Dasmarinas, Cavite. Recovered from him were the getaway motorcycle, a helmet, and the black jacket used in the crime.
He said the gunman, identified as Sansuwe, who remains at large, is still being hunted by the Station Special Investigation team he created to lead the investigation and arrest the suspects.
The city police chief stated that the suspects attempted to snatch the gold necklace of Staff Sgt. Jomar Caliguiran, 39, who was seated on his motorcycle parked in front of Meijiale Advertising when the two suspects on board a silver motorcycle arrived.
Sansuwe reportedly alighted from the motorcycle and, from behind, tried to snatch the gold necklace of the policeman but failed. An exchange of fire ensued, hitting two bystanders, Aljon, 31, and Melchor, 64, who were both rushed to the Manila Adventist Medical Center for treatment.
Caliguiran, who suffered gunshot wounds in the body, was rushed to the Pasay City General Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
The police said that the motive of the killing was robbery after learning that the suspects were the same assailants in the robbery and shooting involving an intelligence officer of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group in Makati earlier this month.
De Sesto said Bayona, who has been placed inside the police custodial facility, was charged with robbery with homicide, frustrated homicide, and attempted homicide.
A manhunt operation continues for the arrest of Sansuwe.
