According to the victim’s grandchild, the incident occurred early Saturday, Aug. 23, when the elderly woman was crossing A. Bonifacio Avenue toward Cobarrubias Street and was hit by a car.
The victim stated that she ensured no vehicles were approaching before crossing. However, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that while she was crossing the pedestrian lane, the car suddenly appeared and struck her, causing her to fall to the ground.
“Nakita niya nang nakaganon ako (nakatumba), tuloy-tuloy pa rin siya (driver). Hindi na siya naawa sa akin, hindi ba niya nakita na matanda na ako (The driver saw me lying on the ground but still kept going. The driver did not even feel pity for me. Did the driver not see that I am already old?),” the victim said.
A motorcycle rider stopped to help her, while another tried to pursue the vehicle but was unable to catch it. The motorcycle rider reported the plate number of the car that hit the victim.
The victim is currently recovering after sustaining a wound on her forehead and other injuries to her body.
“Akala ko kapag tumawid ka sa tamang tawiran, safe ka (I thought I would be safe when crossing at the pedestrian lane),” she said.
The victim’s relatives called on the driver involved in the incident to surrender.
