DAVAO CITY – Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte will roll out a community-based fitness program “Zumba Ehersisyo sa Barangay Distrito Uno” starting Monday, Sept. 1, in Barangay Catalunan Grande.
With the theme “Enhancing Wellness: A Comprehensive Fitness and Awareness Initiative for Senior Citizens and Davaoeños,” Rep. Duturte said the program aims to promote healthy living and encourages physical activity, particularly among older adults.
“This is not just about exercise—it is about creating a culture of wellness in every barangay, especially for our senior citizens,” Rep. Duterte said. “We want them to stay active, healthy, and socially connected, while inspiring younger generations to embrace fitness.”
The kick-off activity will gather over 100 senior participants for a 30-minute Zumba session at 5 a.m. Similar activities will be held in other barangays, highlighting the importance of active aging while fostering stronger community bonds through accessible fitness initiatives.
Barangay captains and Sangguniang Kabataan leaders will help mobilize residents, especially senior citizens, and ensure the continuity of the program across the first district’s communities.
After its launching in Catalunan Grande, the lawmaker’s office will bring the Zumba program to the district’s 53 other barangays in the coming weeks.
