ILOILO CITY -- Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso was laid to rest in Ibajay town, Aklan province on Monday, Aug. 25, more than two weeks after he was murdered.
Thousands attended the funeral of the 50-year-old Estolloso, whose cold-blooded murder by municipal councilor Mihrel Senatin inside the legislative building last Aug. 8 shocked the community.
A funeral march was held for Estolloso’s flag-draped coffin to Saint Peter the Apostle Parish Church for a funeral mass and necrological service.
Estolloso’s wife Arlynn broke down as she called for justice for the brutal death of her husband which she said he did not deserve.
Aklan Gov. Jose Enrique “Joen” Miraflores tried to hold back tears when he called Estollo’s death a tragedy.
“Let us not remember how Vice Julio died, but how he lived,” said Ibajay Mayor Jose Miguel Miraflores, the governor’s brother.
Estolloso was not only a municipal vice mayor but also a beloved teacher and school principal of Melchor Memorial School Inc.
Resolutions honoring Estolloso’s public service as an elective official and educator were given to his family.
