MPower, the local retail electricity supplier for Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), is expanding its long-standing partnership with the five-star hotel, The Peninsula Manila, to provide the hotel with renewable energy.
In a statement on Tuesday, Aug. 26, MPower announced it has signed a new energy contract with The Peninsula to help the hotel transition to clean energy and reduce its carbon emissions.
This new agreement builds on a partnership that began 12 years ago.
With this shift, The Peninsula Manila becomes the second property in Southeast Asia and the fourth globally within the group’s portfolio to transition to clean power.
Kevin Tsang, The Peninsula Manila, director, praised the extended partnership, saying, “By uniting, we are enabling cleaner, more efficient energy solutions that reduce carbon footprint and contribute to the global fight against climate change.”
He added, “Our partnership serves as a benchmark for responsible business practices and inspires others to pursue a greener world for our future generations.”
Redel M. Domingo, head of MPower, commented, “Our more than a decade of partnership stands as a testament to shared vision and service excellence. It even grows stronger with a renewable energy supply commitment. We are shaping the present with purpose, and now we move forward with confidence and unity towards sustainable progress.”
MPower stated that it is committed to giving its customers more choices through cost-competitive retail power supply.
In addition to the agreement with The Peninsula, MPower also recently renewed its contracts with CVC Asia, a private equity firm that supports various businesses, including Landers Superstore, The Medical City, and FAST Logistics Group.
As part of this partnership, Landers Superstore branches will source their power through the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM) and the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP). Similarly, FAST Cold Chain Solutions will also utilize CREM.
