Kendra Kramer relishes experience in national swim tryouts

Kendra Kramer knows it takes patience, perseverance, and everything in between before she can proudly don the national colors in elite international competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games.
Despite falling short in the national tryouts for the 33rd edition of the biennial meet in Thailand this December, the 16-year-old Kramer recalled her experience and cherished every step as part of her journey.
“I’m so blessed to have been a part of this competition. It was such an inspiration to learn, watch, and talk to amazing swimmers,” Kramer wrote on her social media post.
“Seeing the best in Philippine swimming reminded me what this journey is about – not just competing, but growing, learning, and finding meaning in every step towards my goal,” she added.
Kramer, who has won several medals in foreign meets including last year’s Asia Christian Schools Conference, competed in the girls 200-meter backstroke and 50m freestyle where she finished 19th and 28th places, respectively.
There, Kendra met some of the current Filipina swimming stars including Olympian Kayla Sanchez, Micaella Mojdeh, and Heather White, to list a few.
Former PBA player Doug Kramer and actress Cheska, who watched Kendra along with their younger daughter Scarlet, expressed their admiration to their eldest and reminded her that her time will come soon.
“To our Kendra, we're so proud of you! How you're progressed in just two years of consistent swimming is truly admirable. The beauty of sports is that nothing is ever handed to you—you have to earn it,” Team Kendra wrote.
“Remember that mommy and daddy are here for you every day and will always cheer you on. Kendra, your time will come!”
The three-day swimfest which was held inside the Rizal Memorial Complex, gave out national team spots to top finishers.
