'Illuminating Our Future': Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025 to honor Asia's change makers
Global announcement of this year's awardees set for August 31
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation will announce the 2025 awardees on August 31, 2025 honoring Asia’s transformative leaders on President Ramon Magsaysay’s 118th birth anniversary.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) will announce the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees—the region’s most prestigious honor celebrating transformative leadership and service—on August 31 through a global broadcast.
The announcement coincides with the 118th birth anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay, the seventh President of the Philippines and the award’s namesake.
Widely regarded as Asia’s premier prize and often referred to as the region’s “Nobel Prize equivalent,” the Ramon Magsaysay Award was first conferred in 1958.
It recognizes individuals and organizations whose transformative work has uplifted lives, strengthened communities, and embodied what the Foundation calls “greatness of spirit” and “transformative leadership.”
A legacy of leadership and service
“For 67 years, the Ramon Magsaysay Award has honored individuals and organizations whose leadership and service embody the highest values of humanity,” said RMAF President Susan Afan.
“In every generation, their courage has inspired hope, their compassion has healed wounds, and their integrity has stood as a beacon in times of uncertainty,” Afan added, emphasizing the award’s lasting impact.
2025 theme: Illuminating Our Future
This year’s theme, Illuminating Our Future, highlights the enduring legacy and mission of the award.
It honors the 2025 laureates whose work—alongside that of past recipients—continues to bring light, hope, and direction in a rapidly changing world.
“Together, they show us that greatness of spirit transcends boundaries of culture, nation, or sector, and that real change emerges when people and institutions alike dedicate themselves to the welfare of others,” Afan said.
“More than recognition, the Ramon Magsaysay Award is a testament to this enduring truth,” she added.
Celebrated laureates across Asia
Since its inception, the Ramon Magsaysay Award has honored 356 individuals and organizations from 24 countries and territories across Asia.
Past laureates include global icons such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet, St. Teresa of Calcutta, Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, Bangladeshi Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, and Filipino pediatrician Fe Del Mundo.
