The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) condemned on Tuesday, Aug. 26, social media posts that announcing work and class suspensions supposedly declared by DILG Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic’’ Remulla.
This, after some social media sites posted that work and class suspensions are extended until Wednesday, Aug. 27.
“This is fake news. We clarify that no such announcement has been made by the DILG secretary. The authority to declare the suspension of government work and classes lies with the Office of the President, local government units, the Department of Education, and other pertinent government agencies,’’ the DILG said, noting that official advisories are released only through their verified websites and social media pages.
“We warn the public that the Facebook page “Philippines Weather Advisory” has repeatedly posted misleading information. We urge our kababayans to be alert, discerning, and to rely only on official government channels for accurate updates,’’ the DILG noted.
The DILG said it is already considering legal actions against the perpetrators of this fake news, as spreading false advisories endangers public safety and erodes trust in government institutions.
“We call on everyone to stop the spread of unverified information and to help us build a safer and more informed Bagong Pilipinas,’’ it said.
