Two men, one of them reported to be drunk, were arrested for illegal discharge of a firearm and grave threats in separate shooting incidents in Cardona and Taytay, Rizal.
The Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said both incidents occurred on Saturday, Aug. 23. The first incident took place in Barangay Subay, Cardona, at around 11 a.m. which led to the arrest of a man identified as “Gilbert.”
Based on the investigation, the complainant reported that Gilbert fired a gun while standing in a fish pen near the complainant’s residence, causing fear and alarm among residents.
Authorities immediately responded and took Gilbert into custody. A Rock Island .45-caliber pistol, registered under his uncle’s name, was recovered from him.
He was brought to the Cardona Municipal Police Station and is facing charges for violating Article 254 of the Revised Penal Code (Illegal Discharge of Firearm).
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man was also arrested at around 10 p.m. in Barangay Sta. Ana, Taytay, for grave threat, indiscriminate firing, and violations of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Authorities said the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, fired his gun recklessly before confronting a couple and pointing a .38-caliber revolver at them.
The victims were able to alert authorities who happened to be patrolling the area, resulting in the suspect’s immediate arrest.
He is currently under the custody of the Taytay Municipal Police Station.
