Woman hurt after perimeter wall collapses in Antipolo

A heavy afternoon downpour on Sunday, August 24, triggered the collapse of a perimeter wall in Sitio Payong, Barangay Dalig, Antipolo City, injuring a 32-year-old woman who was inside a car with her husband and one-year-old child.

Exequiel Santillan recounted that he was navigating the flooded road when he heard a loud crash and part of the wall suddenly gave way.
His wife, who was seated beside him, instinctively embraced their baby to shield her from impact.
The child was unharmed, but his wife sustained a head injury and bruises.
“Bale nung dumagan po sa amin, niyakap po agad ng asawa ko ‘yung anak namin na one year old… clear naman po ‘yung CT scan niya (when the wall collapsed, my wife immediately hugged our one-year-old child..her CT scan was clear),” Santillan said.
Barangay Dalig Chairman Loni Leyva explained that about 20 meters of the 10-foot-high wall, built more than 20 years ago by a private subdivision, collapsed due to the strong force of floodwater.
“Itong area na ito ang pinaka low-lying area. So lahat ng tubig na nanggagaling sa taas, pumunta rito sa baba, sa lakas, tinulak ‘yung pader (This area is the lowest-lying area. So all the water that comes from above, comes down here, with force, pushing against the wall),” Leyva said.
The barangay coordinated with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Antipolo City Engineering Office to assess the structural integrity of the remaining wall.
Local officials assured that assistance will be extended to the injured woman and her family.
